Healy To Be Recognized With “Motivating Women” Award by
Birmingham International Center
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – April 13, 2012 – Ruwena Healy, chief executive officer of Marketing 24/7, will be among a group of women honored by the Birmingham International Center as “Motivating Women” at this year’s International Women’s Day Dinner being held Tuesday, April 17, at the Hilton Perimeter Park.
As part of the effort to promote mutual understanding among cultures, Birmingham International Center sponsors International Women’s Day, a global celebration for the economic, political and social achievements of women. Motivating Women reflect diversity, culture and achievement. These awards are given to women who inspire and motivate others to live successfully and significantly by making differences, large and small, every day in the world around them.
Healy was nominated by Anna Kathryn Ellis of Payroll & Benefit Solutions. “Since I first met Ruwena, she has always been a mentor to me by providing me with introductions to people, suggesting I get involved in certain areas of the community and even connecting me to prospective clients,” Ellis said. “Ruwena is a business woman I look up to because she has her own company, manages her work/life balance well and even has time for community involvement.”
“In my career, I have been motivated by many strong and determined women and I’m honored to now be selected as one of the Birmingham International Center’s Motivating Women of 2012,” Healy said. “There are many young, professional men and women whom I have helped in their careers, whether it was to give them guidance on their career path, help educate them on publicity techniques or simply to take them under my wings for six weeks in the summer.”
“Opportunities to shadow established professionals provides young professionals with exposure to a daily work life and introduces them to the business world in a way they do not experience during their college days,” Healy said.
When Jayna Goedecke of Jayna Goedecke Designs LLC first met Healy, she said she knew what her passion was but was too hesitant to do something with her business idea. “With Ruwena’s encouragement and help I was able to jump in head first and follow my dreams,” Goedecke said. “She has been an amazing mentor and I hope one day I can give back to her all that she has given to me.”
As part of the annual event, the Birmingham International Center also presents the prestigious “Woman of Consequence Award.” More than 500 women from throughout the state are normally in attendance for the presentation of this award, given to women who have made a difference in their countries.
“I think one of things is that we’re very pleased that people have nominated women from all parts of our state and all different disciplines,” said Iris Gross, executive director of the Birmingham International Center. “It is an opportunity for the unsung hero to get some recognition. That’s what International Women’s Day is all about, recognizing the achievements of women.”
This year, the Birmingham International Center selected 20 women to recognize as “Motivating Women”.
