“It’s been a great challenge to participate in the first 2 weeks of Social Madness” stated Marketing 24/7 CEO, Ruwena Healy. “We not only improved our company’s social profile, we were also able to showcase our social media savvy to Business Journal readers throughout the country as well as gain expertise and insight into social media best practices for businesses. And, as a bonus, I was able to reconnect with a childhood friend I’d lost touch with - we found one another on Facebook and she liked my company’s fan page. This wasn’t expected when I entered this competition.”
Healy also enjoyed partnering on the project with a team of five PR students from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). “The students and I worked really hard to create engaging content during the two weeks for our followers. We developed five blog articles and two in particular offered 20 LinkedIn tips. Additionally, we answered social media questions that our followers posted and we had some fun by posting trivia questions about UAB.”
Healy stated that her company’s social media presence and online brand had grown tremendously as a result of the competition. “Marketing 24/7’s Twitter followers grew by 210% over the two week period and Facebook followers increased by 185%.”
If she makes it to the final round, Marketing 24/7 will compete head-to-head with small businesses in 42 cities across the country. When the national winners are announced September 11, charitable donations will be made on behalf of the three category winners.
